Marrakech is a Great place for artists, skiers, sun worshipers or mountain climbers and walkers. Stay in our traditional Morroccan Riad in Marrakech, Morrocco. It is in one of the best (if not the best) areas just next to the kings palace on derb el basha. Only 10 minutes walk from the place j'ma el f'na and a very easy and safe walk there and back -even late at night. The area is very fashionable but full of character and really easy to find. Taxis stop a few hundred yards away. Very close to the best juice bar and patisserie in town-opposite the entrance to the king's palace. Most riads charge about ?50-150 per ROOM per night. So grab a real bargain! Why is our riad so cheap I hear you ask? (I've got really good hearing!) Well, we have just bought it and although it was renovated by the previous european owners 10 years ago it is not quite as luxurious and westernized as some riads. It is basic in some ways which is appealing to some and not to those who require 5* accomodation complete with talking minibar, remote controls and electric curtains! Having said that it is full of morroccan character and very colourful with amazing tiles in blue, green, gold, red and turquoise. We think the riad has a magical feel about it. And although it is rather more traditional than some riads it does have some very luxurious and new features such as a newly constructed berber tent up on the roof terrace. We have furnished the riad with luxurious 300 count egyptian cotton bedlinen, sumptuous big pillows, quality bathrobes and fluffy towels. There is always hot water for showers and everything seems to work well. GROUND FLOOR: Bedroom 4/ Bathroom: 3 moroccan single beds with ensuite wet/shower room in green tiles. Two single beds are currently placed together making one double bed and a single. This room can be used purely as a shower room for bedrooms 2 , 3 (and 5). Kitchen: The Kitchen is basic in design but is well equipped with brand new gas cooker, fridge-freezer, juicer, toaster, kettle, tagines, crockery and cutlery etc. You may well want to be looked after by our excellent cook- She can cater extremely well for vegetarians and children as well as traditional carnivorous fare! (I am a vegetarian myself and she has cooked some of the best dishes I have ever been served- including in top restaurants!) Our cook will shop for the freshest organic ingredients available in the local market. She is a superbly gifted cook. Sitting room/ Bedroom 5 (suitable for teenage children-sleeping on the long sofas-a morroccan tradition) Seating for up to 10-12 people in 2 areas-a TV area and a sociable area. Facilities include colour TV, dvds, internet available if you bring your laptop (you may be able to borrow the riad's laptop IF it is available), fax machine, games. Washing machine and drying area: Our cleaner can wash, dry and iron your clothes at extra (very reasonable) charge. Courtyard: Dining area and seating area within the Beautiful courtyard with large orange tree in centre and several palms. FIRST FLOOR AREA: Bedroom 1: 1 large super kingsize bed (7' 6" ft x 6' 6")with large ensuite wet/shower room in small blue tiles. B'hou area: This is a lovely seating area overlooking the courtyard- a lovely place to sit at night with candles or with the multicoloured star shaped lamp above. Twin Bedroom 3: A small and simple tiled room just off the B'hou area furnished with 2 single beds and a small cupboard. Bedroom 2: 2nd Large super kingsize bedroom (Same size as first superking bed)that takes up the whole width of one end of this long room! Also contains a single bed. No en suite so you must use the shower room downstairs. ROOF TERRACE: Full of lovely plants, palms and flowering plants in painted blue and terracota pots. Lovely berber tent on the terrace overlooking the courtyard for late night dining and enjoying the warm moroccan evenings. Hardwood sun loungers with white cushions. Seating area to have a morroccan candle lit feast prepared by our cook. Riad is a good size (140 meters on each of 3 floors)-larger than many riad-hotels and with many different areas affording privacy to families and friends who stay together but want some space away from each other too. Abdelatif (our guardian) who has been good friends for over 10 years with the previous owners is looking after the riad for us and will be your host-leaving you to your own devices as much or as little as you want-just ask. He can pick you up at the airport, help you out if you have any difficulties, take you on tours of the atlas mountains or to Essouira etc (at extra reasonable charge). He speaks french and some english and is a genuinely nice person. We can offer cookery lessons, visits to excellent local hammans, experiences observing and even having individual instruction in basic blacksmithing, woodworking or other traditional crafts, mountain trecking, trips to the coast. There is Soooooo much to do...... This is THE place to visit if you want a new experience. It is NOT Disney or Palm Beach! But it IS an incredibly exciting, educational and stimulating place. One of the safest places I have ever travelled to. *Xmas, New Year,Easter rates and Peak holidays are generally a little higher. CALL US IN THE UK ON: 00 44 1462 790264 or 00 44 7971 227338.
