We have just started running lessons and workshops in the Shaw Method - a method of swimming based on the Alexander Technique. Currently taught at some of the big health clubs in London, we're now spreading the word to Brighton! More than in conventional swimming teaching, the Shaw Method pays attention to the quality of each movement, rather than the quantity. So we won't make you swim length after length until you feel the burn. True to its roots in the Alexander Technique, the Method also emphasises the need to pay attention to the alignment of the head, neck, and back to encourage easy breathing, and teaches the swimmer to recognise and eliminate unnecessary tension throughout the body, whilst performing each stroke. This means it's really good for anyone recovering from an injury but who still wants to exercise. If you're interested, take a look at our website - www.alexanderswimming.co.uk . It's fun, non-competitive and very relaxing.
